2,000 chickens die in truck fire

ORANGE COUNTY — About 2,000 chickens were killed when an 18-wheeler had a tire blow-out and subsequent fire on Wednesday.
An International truck tractor semi-trailer towing live chickens was traveling eastbound around 12:15 p.m. on Interstate 10 near Highway 62 in Orange County when the tire blew out, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. The vehicle was carrying approximately 6,000 chickens.
There were no other reports of injuries.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has been notified of the incident.
