Beaumont police have identified the victim in a Monday morning shooting death as Lynda Barnes, 57.

Police were called to the 1100 block of Church Street in connection with a shooting. When they arrived Beaumont Fire Department paramedics were treating the woman now identified as Barnes. She was transported to St. Elizabeth’s hospital, where she pronounced dead.

In an issued statement, police said a witness told them of hearing gunshots and seeing a possible suspect flee the scene, running south from the home. The male suspect was described as a black man with a short afro, in his 30s or 40s, wearing a blue plaid shirt.

Police said investigators Tuesday were interviewing neighbors and people who knew Barnes and “combing video surveillance” of the area. Investigators were following “multiple leads,” police said.
