First responders have recovered the body of a man a day after he was first spotted in the ship channel.
The man was located shortly before 2 p.m. under a dock at the Port of Port Arthur on Thursday, according to information from the Port Arthur Police Department.
The U.S. Coast Guard was able to use a special vessel to recover the body which was then taken to the old Coast Guard station across the ship channel.
Justice of the Peace Marc DeRouen responded to the incident.
Responding agencies include the Port Arthur Police Department, Port Arthur Fie Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and the Coast Guard.
A worker at the Port saw what they believed to be a body floating in the ship channel and reported the incident around 9:33 a.m. Wednesday but by the time they were able to launch a boat and get to the scene, the body had moved to another location.
