BEAUMONT —
Texas Department of Transportation is reporting the eastbound lanes of I-10 are now open but the westbound lanes remain closed following a traffic fatality at the base of the Purple Heart Bridge on Friday.
Beaumont Police responded to the crash at about 2:14 a.m. Aug. 31 where they learned the driver of a GMC pickup truck was driving eastbound in the westbound lane of I-10 when the pickup collided head on with an 18-wheeler. Acadian Ambulance Service transported the driver of the 18-wheeler to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth emergency room for treatment of minor injuries, according to a press release from BPD.
Westbound I-10 will be completely shut down for several hours due to a diesel fuel leak from the 18-wheeler.

“A person does not change their character overnight,” said Veazey, a retired Port Arthur Independent School District teacher. “We do not accept that she just walked into a room and started beating on a kid. Her students are her life. She wouldn’t do that.”
