An Austin defense attorney showed up in court with her weeks-old infant after a justice of the peace denied her request for a delay when she said she was on maternity leave.
Lawyer Amber Vazquez Bode said her assistant faxed a request for a continuance Thursday, ahead of a deadline for a jury trial that was to begin this week.
Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Glenn Bass tells the Austin American-Statesman that Bode had received four delays in the six-year-old case.
The misdemeanor case was dismissed Monday. Bode said it was for lack of evidence, but Bass said it was because not all witnesses appeared.
Bode wrote on Facebook that her baby “was completely freaking out.” Bass’ office said the attorney was warned about a confrontational manner.
