PORT ARTHUR —
A homeowner and another family member fought off a masked intruder with a handgun Saturday night in the 5100 block of 15th Street.
Family members say a man in a ski mask came in through the back door, pulled what appeared to be a small-caliber handgun and pointed it at the homeowner, according to a news release by the Port Arthur Police Department.
The homeowner and another family member struggled with the intruder, who fired several shots, hitting the homeowner in the head. The gun may have been an air gun designed to look like a firearm.
The homeowner was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries not considered life threatening.
The suspect ran away without any money or property.

“A person does not change their character overnight,” said Veazey, a retired Port Arthur Independent School District teacher. “We do not accept that she just walked into a room and started beating on a kid. Her students are her life. She wouldn’t do that.”
