Beaumont man gets prison in child pornography case

— A 37-year-old Beaumont man has been sentenced to federal prison for child pornography violations.

Shawn Suri pleaded guilty on May 16, 2012, to possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

According to information presented in court, in September 2011, federal and local agents executed a search warrant at Suri’s residence in Beaumont.  During the search of Suri’s home, agents located and seized a laptop.  Suri admitted to law enforcement agents that he used the internet to download and view child pornography.  A forensic examination of the computer revealed Suri possessed approximately 11,000 images and 1000 videos of child pornography.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.         This case was investigated by the Homeland Security Investigations, the Beaumont Police Department, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.  This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher T. Tortorice.
