Early morning crash leaves Groves man dead

— A man from Groves is dead following an early morning two vehicle crash.

At approximately 12:28 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 the driver of a 2007 Dodge truck was heading eastbound on Hwy 73 near Country Club Road and failed to drive in a single lane, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety press release. The driver, 27-year-old Stephen Christopher Crane, struck an abandoned and disabled vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway.

The driver was pronounced dead at 1:13 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Mark Derouen. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and the crash is still under investigation by Jefferson County troopers.
