BRIDGE CITY — The Bridge City High School Calculator Application Team brought home the gold at the UIL State Academic Meet in Austin on Friday and Saturday.
In individual competition for the Cardinals, Andrew Havens was the state champion in Calculator Applications.
The General Math team brought home silver medals for their second place finish. The Number Sense team was fourth.
This was the 16th straight year for the BC math team to advance to state competition. This year’s math team of Havens, Leah Moss, Nick Robertson and Randy Dupuis competed in three events: Calculator Applications, General Mathematics, and Number Sense. The team won the right to compete in Austin at the state meet by winning all three math events at the Regional Academic Meet held in Brenham on April 22.
In other individual competitions, Havens was tied for fifth in General Math and was sixth in Number Sense. Robertson was second in Calculator Applications and tied with Havens for fifth in General Math.
All of the students are now eligible to apply for scholarships from the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation.
There are over two hundred 3A school districts. Sixty-eight schools were represented at the State Academic Meet. Bridge City’s math team scored more points than sixty two of the other schools. The Calculator Applications Team’s score was higher than the winning school of the 4A division.
Coaches for the Cardinals are JoEllen Green and Faye Parish.
