The board of directors of the Port Arthur Economic Development Corporation may have a new way of selecting business award winners.
The directors will consider new selection procedures for business of the year award, new and/or expanded business award and business hall of fame award at their regular meeting beginning at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 16 at the PAEDC building, 4173 39th St. in Port Arthur.
Floyd Batiste, chief executive officer for the PAEDC, said they have held economic development week with a banquet the past two years in October or November in which the three business categories are chosen. He said the PAEDC currently selects the categories through recommendations from the staff.
Any business in the city of Port Arthur may be selected and need not be a PAEDC member, Batiste said.
Directors too, will consider approval of $717,982.97 to Excavators and Constructor for the construction of the Jade Ave. extension in phase two of the project. This will be the first payment for phase two for the overall $2.5 million project amount.
Directors will also consider a request to increase advertisement for the PAEDC on The Breeze 107.1 FM radio station.
