Teachers get ready for new school year

PORT NECHES — As hordes of pre-kindergarten through fifth grade teachers lunched in Port Neches Elementary School’s cafeteria, administrators awarded door prizes.

The annual event brought the teachers to the campus for educator mini-sessions, a hallway filled with vendors and lunch.

Suzanne Mondey, director of special programs and Brenda Duhon, staff development, worked the day together in a joint effort for the teachers, paraprofessionals and principals.

Connie Woodall, veteran teacher at Ridgewood Elementary, was the winner of one of the many door prizes.

“I love this,” Woodall said. “This is a great way to get a little of everything you need and the sessions are great, very informative.”

Vendor tables were filled with purple and white spirit items, “Texas Teacher” T-shirts, beauty items, jewelry, food, school supplies and more. s

Bobbi Hayes, in her ninth year at Van Buren Elementary, called the event beneficial.

“And the shopping is fun. I’m liking it,” Hayes said.

Mondey said other district workshops were being held on different campuses for the sixth through 12th grade educators. These teachers, paraprofessionals and principals attended mini sessions on bullying and drug awareness.

Students in Port Neches-Groves ISD return to classes on Aug. 22.
