Sassy Red Hatters spread the joy to Cypress Glen East

Cypress Glen East Red Hatters

Marie Errington and other members of The Sassy Red Hatters will help Cypress Glen East residents form their own chapter group.

Other Red Hat groups are encouraged to lend support to the programs. For information, call 727-3193.

Dolores Powell remembers how much fun she had with those “wild” Red Hat Society ladies.

“I used to go with my daughter-in-law. It was so much fun,” she recalled.

She can’t get out like she used to since moving into Cypress Glen East Nursing and Rehabilitation. Now the Red Hatters are coming to her.

Marie Errington of Port Arthur and other members of The Sassy Red Hatters group are helping residents form their own club.

“When we heard about them, it kind of touched our hearts and we thought this would be something good we could do to bring happiness to all of them,” Errington said.

She said she realizes these residents aren’t as mobile as her group.

“We go out to eat once a month and we’ve gotten together to make jewelry and we’ve gone to New York and Washington, D.C. and Canada. We’ve had good times and just about every holiday we get together and throw a party and dress up. I think we’re like little kids.”

Powell and Vera Wilkerson are two of the Cypress Glen residents who already have their red hats ready for the fun. Powell’s is straw with a rose and her friend’s is felt with a purple ribbon and feather.

Nancy Dodson, assistant activities director, has been a member of the Pecan Delights, on of the international Red Hat Society Groups. She said members meet for fun and socializing, and she thinks that’s just what will appeal to the Cypress Glen residents.

Other groups are encouraged to help with programming. Dodson said Debbie Arnold of Arnold’s Billiard’s has donated monogrammed hats and napkins.
