NEDERLAND — Mustard, avocado and orange is the trend Desperate Housewives will want to follow. Its not salad. It’s fashion advice for the season’s color palate.

“The bigger and the chunkier, the better,” Kristie Houston, owner of the new Nederland boutique, predicted for spring jewelry styles.

Jazz candles, oversized handbags and home decor fill the shop, 312 12th St. near the Rustic Door. Houston named her shop after the popular TV series featuring the misbehaving women of Wisteria Lane.

“My girlfriends and i just loved the show,” Houston said.

Their viewing parties turned into plans for a shop that Houston now runs with help from her mother, Sharon. The pair seem to get along much better than the fictional TV neighbors: Susan, Ly nette, Bree and Gabrielle.

“She’s just a lot of fun to be around,” Houston’s mother said.

“We decoded to open it up as a family business,” Houston added.

As the scent “Romantic Nights” filled the shop, Houston, a former Realtor, showed her latest stock of handbags featuring bold flowers and multiple zippers. While much in the store is designed to decorate a woman, other goods are for adorning a home, apartment or office.

She said she’s all about the personal attention, too. When her mother described Houston as fun to be around, she added that her daughter enjoys visiting with people and bringing out the best in them. This characteristic enables her to guide customers to the perfect match of merchandise and personality.

“When they walk out of here, I want them to be pleased shoppers,” the owner said.
