Port Arthur’s Memorial High School Academic Decathlon Team went head to head with students from across the region in a two day rigorous academic challenge and came away with first place metals.
The students competed with 25 teams in speech, interviews and essay writing and six 30 minute tests covering a vast array of knowledge including literature, economics, math, social science, art and music. Students also participated in a Super Quiz which tests the student’s knowledge in a specific content area. This year’s theme was “China and its influence on the world.”
MHS student Thuy Tran won second place in the art competition and first place in the team honors division.
Donovan Ethridge won first place in the team scholastic division. Fernando Flores won first place in the team varsity division.
Other members of the team include Charlotte Gulewicz, Patricia Figueroa, Joisse Pena and Coaches Keith Jones and Stephany Rhodes.
