PA Chapter of NAACP to host meeting March 22

The Port Arthur Chapter of the NAACP will meet at 4 p.m. March 22 at 1001 Texas Ave.



PA Friends of Library presents the Singing Poet Guy

The Port Arthur Friends of the Library will present Lawrence J. Clark, The Singing Poet Guy, at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in the Gallery.

This free live performance weaves music, poetry and storytelling into an entertaining show for the whole family. Houston-based Clark has performed around the country and has written more than 300 songs. Donations are welcome and support library services to the community. TJ, SFA Ebony Class of 1973 to meet March 17

The Ebony Class of 1973 TJ and SFA will meet at 1 p.m. March 17 in the gallery at the Port Arthur Public Library. For more information, call Sedonia “Pudden” Deans at 736-2208 or Joyce Flugence at 548-0369 or 960-9115.



Benefit for leukemia patient to be held March 17

Friends and family of Tyler Brown will host a benefit from noon to 9 p.m. March 17 at Knights of Columbus Hall, 2165 West Port Arthur Road. There will be barbecue, gumbo, chicken dump, a cake walk and prize give-a-ways. Musical entertainment will be provided by a variety of bands. Proceeds will benefit 8-year-old Tyler Brown, who has been diagnosed with Leukemia.

Donations are also being accepted at Gulf Credit Union account No. 66371.



Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club basketball program to begin

Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club are holding registration for its spring Basketball Program March 19 at the club on 25th Street.

Ages are from 9-17 years old and registration is $15 which covers Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club membership fees and basketball fees. Volunteers are also urged to apply. For more information contact Unit Director Sharlene Thomas at 983-2229 or Jon Jackson 540-1470.



Unity Class of 1985 to meet March 18

The Unity Class of 1985 will meet at 6 p.m. March 18 at 6107 Linda Drive. The group will discuss class members’ 40th birthday party this year.



Mexican Heritage Society to meet March 20

The monthly planning meeting for the Mexican Heritage Society is set for 7 p.m. March 20 at the Port Arthur Public Library. The group will be accepting new members and volunteers to help with the fiesta.



Meet the author of “Choose Your Beat”

Local author Ruby Jacob Scott will present her book, Choose Your Beat, from 1 to 4 p.m. March 24 at the Port Arthur Public Library. Fellowship and refreshments will follow.



Substance abuse community forum set for March 27

The Wheatley Head Start Program in conjunction with the Port Arthur Citizen’s Drug Task Force will present a Substance Abuse Community Forum at 6 p.m. March 27 at the school, 1100 Jefferson Drive.

Various agencies will present their programs of interventions and drug counselors, as well as ministers, will be on hand to answer questions.
