Community Scoop:Cooks can still get a ‘taste’ of cooking school

— I saw everybody and their mama at the Port Arthur News-sponsored Taste of Home Cooking School. I loved seeing foodies of all ages and we all hung on every move of culinary specialist Jamie Dunn as she sliced, stirred and served. Something I love about Taste of Home publications is that readers often supply the recipes. In one of the magazines given out at Tuesday’s school at the Robert A. “Bob” Bowers Civic Center, Barbara Moravek of Florida shared her Anytime Cucumber Salad. She combines chopped, peeled cucumbers, seedless red grapes, pineapple chunks, toasted pecans and bacon ranch salad. I want to try this with a vinaigrette substitution. If you missed out, you can pick up one of the cookbooks at The News. Partial proceeds benefit Newspapers in Education. “Taste of Home Cookbook” is 24 dollars and ninetyfive cents and “Comfort Diet Food Cookbook” is 17 dollars and 95 cents. Stop by the office, 3501 Turtle Creek Drive, during office hours for your taste. Poetry in French Danielle Bienvenu, a Lumberton French teacher, has published her second novel, a collection of poetry and lyrics in two languages. “LeBeau Coeur - The Beautiful Heart” includes comedic, gut-wrenching, religious and amorous poems, lyrics and photography, the author reports.
