PORT ARTHUR —

I hope you’re planning a Sept. 6 Labor Day party with plenty of friends and food.

This week’s Sounds Good features a few new products to keep the party flowing:

Grill Daddy

Grandma always had a steel brush to clean the bird bath. Because I water the birds more than I grill, I may try an innovative use for the Grill Daddy,  As Seen on TV. This is a high quality brush with a plastic, ergonomic grip that you fill with water to steam clean your grill. My grillin’ nephew said the water kept putting his fire out, because he cleans just before he cooks. I like to put the grill to bed clean, so this stainless steel brush is a keeper.

Gotcha covered

Some cooks always send food home with guests and I know a hostess who already digs the CoverMate concept. Stretch-to-fit, reusable food covers look like little shower caps but keep your salads and casseroles in check on the way to and from a party. They’ll keep the bugs out of dishes at outdoor buffets. The  BPA, PVC and latex free covers are microwave- and dish washer-safe and come in a three-size variety pack.

Gear Tie

Little rubber ties arrived the day I was twisted up in so many wires I couldn’t open a desk drawer. I love the green apple color of the 3-inch for phones and cam corders, yet the 6-inchers in basic black for thicker cables is what really tended to my needs. Plenty of more colors and sizes await those who visit geartie.com for a low-tech solution to high-tech wire clutter. I’ll need more of these American-made, reusable goodies for my kitchen radio and hair iron. It’s a simple strip, but it does the job.
