Get ready to pray with your neighbors



Becky Cole promises to keep News readers informed on the upcoming National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 7. She says people from several area churches in Port Neches, Groves and Nederland are planning an event at the Port Neches-Groves High School gym.

“I attended my first planning meeting last week and I believe we’ll have great participation from churches all over the three cities,” Cole said.



The art of guitar

The Texas Artists Museum is where you can catch displays from talented local artists and now it’s a source for guitar instruction.

TAM will offer instruction on Thursdays and Saturdays at $10 a lesson in acoustic, electric and bass. Call 983-4881 for more info.



St. Paul to host Zachary Breaux Jazz Fest

Tickets are on sale for the second annual Zachary Breaux Jazz Fest, set for Friday and Saturday, June 12-13, at the Procter Street Pavilion in downtown Port Arthur. St. Paul United Methodist Church will host the event to honor Breaux, a native son and accomplished jazz artist.

He lost his life trying to save a drowning woman in 1997.

“The St. Paul United Methodist Church feels compelled to promote this day of celebration on behalf of Zachary’s music fans around the world, his family, his peers and for the citizens of Port Arthur,” the Rev. Patricia Wells, pastor, said.

Groves to host egg hunt

One of the first egg hunts of the season will be in Groves.

The Groves Chamber of Commerce & Tourist Center will host its 16th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at Wesgroves Park on W. Washington Ave., near the Groves Public Library. Call 962-3631 if you need to know any more.



Happy birthday in Groves

Market Basket will furnish the cake for a big party in Groves. First Friday in Groves is turning 5.

The party will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, April 3, with family events along Lincoln Avenue in downtown Groves. Those with an April 3 birthday will get a gift.
