Longneck road art in Friday folder
Longneck Road to polay Logon Cafe on Friday
BEAUMONT — Longneck Road and Southern Embers will play at the Logon Café in Beaumont at 8 p.m. Friday, July 31.
Longneck Road plays primarily original music written by singer/guitarist Dick LeMasters, whose songs draw from the rock, blues, and Texas Country genres.
Longneck Road coined the term “Texas Rock” to describe their sound.
“I grew up listening to progressive country and rock, and the songs we do in Longneck Road reflect those influences,” said LeMasters.
Bassist RonArceneaux agrees.
“I’ve played Texas Country music for many years, and with Longneck Road, we’ve taken Texas Country and moved it a few notches towards rock ‘n’ roll.”
Longneck Road has finished recording the tracks for its first album, due out in the early fall. The 10-song effort includes the band’s first single “The Way You Walk,” which combines a rock beat, a down-home vocal feel, and humorous lyrics. The band’s website, www.longneckroad.com, features streaming audio of this and several additional original Longneck Road songs.
Membres say the Logon Café is an ideal venue for Longneck Road.
“Jason Spencer, who manages and runs the sound at the Logon, always does a great job,” said Robert Arena, the drummer for Longneck Road. The Logon Café has a history of bringing notable musicians to the area. Past shows at the venue have included Ray Wiley Hubbard, Trout Fishing in America, Shake Russell and Dana
Cooper, and Hayes Carll. “The Logon is definitely a place where the audience comes to listen — as opposed to bars where the band is mostly background music — and just being there inspires me to play my best,” said Miles Sykes, lead guitarist for Longneck Road.
Special guests Southern Embers will open the show at 8 p.m. Southern Embers includes Doug Asher on lead guitar, Jerry Boden on drums, and Michael Tillotson on bass. Southern Embers performs original Southern Rock, and recently completed their first album, which is available on itunes and through Amazon.
The Logon Café is at 3805 Calder Ave.in Beaumont, and offers an extensive coffee selection, a full menu and beer and wine. The cover charge for the July 31 show is $5. Additional information about the Logon Café is available at www.logoncafe.net, or by calling 832-1529.
