Being available for ministry, traveling throughout the nation telling the good news of Jesus. Being an icon for the youth to see God at work through me ..."
These are the first words you see when you pay a visit to 10 year old De'Andre Nico's Web site, PromiseSeed.com. At first glance, De'Andre Nico appears to be a typical 8-year-old boy, but this young prodigy is far from typical; he's full of talent, God's love and well beyond his years. De'Andre's passion doesn't lie in sports, girls or video games; his passion is music.
A native of Port Arthur, De'Andre is the youngest child of Darryl and Johnna Nico. De'Andre's parents kept him in church, as do most Christian parents, but Mrs. Nico said that that her son has always had a special gift and that his relationship with God began at a very early age.
"He began to sing in the bathroom and he captivated our attention. We noticed that he wasn't a child that played normal games, he has always offered something to God," De'Andre's parents said. "He would rather beat on pots and pans and act as our church drummer, or use a bottle of oil to anoint everyone that came into our home. He would even stand on the dining room table wanting everyone to listen to home preach a sermon when the only word he could say was Jesus."
At Sunday church services, the Bishop would call De'Andre up at the end of the service to sing his favorite song "Reach Out and Touch." Soon his parents, and the entire church congregation, would see the talent that's been seeping through toddler De'Andre. At three and a half, he made his grand debut during a church Christmas program; he was given a solo. De'Andre left his mark on everyone with the Whitney Houston classic "Who Could Imagine a King."
Now, at age 10, De'Andre puts three different kinds of instruments to work, bongos, keyboard and drums; as well as his vocal abilities as a member of New Beginning Word of God Ministries. There he writes music, plays instruments and sings; but De'Andre's passion runs so deep, he uses his gifts for many organizations. He's a musician for the Adult Praise & Worship Team, the Youth Choir and the Mass Choir.
"He sets the atmosphere each Sunday for the people to receive the Word of God," PromiseSeed said.
He's a member of the all boys choir at his school, but that's not the icing on the cake. De'Andre sang a solo for Greg O'Quinn during the MLK Celebration. He's also shared the stage with Gospel great Kurt Carr. He's opened up for Beau Williams and he's graced some of the biggest names in Gospel with his presence, including Kirk Franklin, Brent Jones and John P. Kee.
With his pastor, the Rev. Eric Briscoe, of NBWG Ministries and his parents by his side, De'Andre Nico brings the true meaning of miracles to life.
"He is looking forward to all the things God desires to do with him, through him. He is always reminded to give Praise to the Giver of his Gift not the Gift. It is his desire to give his best to the best, Jesus Christ," De'Andre's parents said.
De'Andre has a variety of activities he participates in on the regular basis, one includes shooting a television show.
You can contact, or just check out De'Andre and some of his pictures on his mission at www.promiseseed.com.
