GROVES —
Beverly Perry and Shirley Vicknair did some early Christmas shopping and picked up a few things for themselves during the annual Christmas Tree Trail to Groves on Sunday.
The Bridge City women took a quick break outside The Courtyard Cafe before moving down Lincoln Avenue to Hannah Bay’s Clothing store.
“It’s wonderful. I come every year,” Perry said. “I see a lot of friends and a lot of bargains.”
Perry picked up some items for herself and some gifts for others while shopping.
“A little for me and a little for Christmas,” she said with a laugh.
Businesses in and around Lincoln Avenue decked the halls, brought out the refreshments and opened their doors on Sunday to waves of shoppers.
Prissy Davenport, owner of Williams Florist & Gifts Inc., 5890 32nd St., welcomed patrons to the shop amid the splendor of elegantly decorated Christmas trees, ornaments and a front window featuring a view of a winter wonderland.
Adia Meaux and Brandi Gibson were among several associates at the shop who fielded questions about the spread of refreshments, especially the “toffee crackers.” They received so many requests for the recipe to the sweet cracker concoction they decided to print the recipe for patrons.
Marie “Sugar” Mannino of Nederland toured the business with friend Juanita Martin of Groves.
“I love it,” Mannino said of the Christmas Tree Trail to Groves. “Plus you get to taste all kinds of goodies and have some fun.”
The staff at the Groves Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Center scheduled their open house in conjunction with the annual event and welcomed visitors with food, drink and a chance to win door prizes.
Bonnie Boutte, Geneva Boyer and Judy Anderson made it a point to stop by the chamber to visit before heading to other businesses.
“It’s a tradition we’ve done for several years,” Boyer said before planning out her next stop with friends.
