Parade to celebrate drug-free kids

— Tuesday at 9 a.m. a parade of an estimated 85 cars and trucks will make their rounds to Port Neches-ISD schools for the annual Red Ribbon Parade celebrating drug and alcohol-free children.

The parade will pass by each PN-GISD elementary and middle school spreading the message of “Live long, enjoy your life and be drug-free,” according to Port Neches-Groves ISD Parent-Teacher Association chairman Pat Jacobs-Scalf.

“We do this to keep our children off the street and drug-free,” said Jacobs-Scalf.

Participants in the parade are encouraged to arrive at the Village Center Shopping Center, 2825 Nall St. in Port Neches, at 8 a.m. with their vehicles decorated with posters and red ribbons.

According to Jacob-Scalf, elected officials, local police and fire departments, church organizations and grand marshal Linda Harrison will lead the caravan.

Children must remain inside of their vehicles, because of the long distance of the parade, and there is no tossing of any items to or from vehicles.
