Hurricane Gustav
St. Mary ER still open
Depending upon the full impact of the storm, all inpatient and outpatient services at Christus Hospital-St. Mary are scheduled to be in full operation beginning Wednesday. Starting Tuesday, patients can call the scheduling line at 409-989-5230 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to reschedule or confirm appointments slated for this week, spokesperson Jacquelynn Schroeder reported Monday morning
St. Mary's emergency department is the only medical facility that has remained open during the entire evacuation process in the South and Mid County community. The hospital was able to remain staffed and prepared to handle the emergency medical needs even after the mandatory evacuation was called and patients were transferred out of the area.
St. Mary began planning and better preparing for natural disasters, such as Hurricane Gustav, after Hurricane Rita left the area decimated with little warning. Three years later, St. Mary Associates were able to transfer patients in a fluid and orderly manner during an urgent and unsure time for the community.
Patient Finder
Family members of St. Mary patients can find information about where the patient was transferred on the CHRISTUS Hospital web site, www.christushospital.org/ . Family members can input the patient's last name and will find the location and contact information for the new hospital. You can find the Patient Finder at http://patientfinder.christushealth.org.

CHRISTUS Hospital - St. Elizabeth's emergency department has also remained open during the storm. The Minor Care Center in Beaumont is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday.
