The Salvation Army Continues Relief Efforts in Beaumont Area
More locations added Thursday for food/water

The Salvation Army is serving hot meals at five locations in South and Mid-Jefferson County. Capt. Leo Ortiz said canteens will be arriving at the locations around noon and will serve meals until the food runs out or they have to leave to be back to their staging area by 6 p.m.
The locations are:
• Bruce’s Market Basket, 6000 39th St. in Groves.
• Washington Park at Booker T. Washington School in Port Arthur.
• Market Basket on West Port Arthur Road in Port Acres.
• Parking lot at Jefferson Drive and Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur.
• H-E-B Store at Twin City Highway and FM 365 in Mid-County.

Thursday morning, The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Units, or canteens, continue to canvass the Hurricane Ike-affected areas, providing food and water to citizens in need.

“We will continue to meet the need of the citizens of Beaumont and the surrounding area for as long as we’re needed,” said Beaumont Incident Commander Major Harvey Johnson. “We continue to hear from those affected that they are in need of relief.”
Wednesday alone, these canteens provided 19,975 meals, 9,719 snacks and 21,637 drinks of water to the public. On Monday, the canteens provided 16,434 meals and water to the public.
Emergency canteen crews have gathered in the Beaumont area from throughout the nation, including Kentucky, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Jersey, West Virginia, Tennessee, Michigan, Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
The Salvation Army Disaster Relief Team’s Command Center in Beaumont is located at 713 Orleans, right across from the Beaumont Emergency Operations Center.
Red Cross Feeding Locations
Wednesday, September 17, 2008 – The Beaumont Chapter of the American Red Cross continues to assist those people effected by Hurricane Ike. Following a mandatory evacuation, officials have determined it safe for essential disaster personnel to enter the storm ravaged areas. An emergency operations center was rapidly established and staffed by Red Cross local volunteers and chapter employees. Since Tuesday, September 16 2008, 11 Emergency Response Vehicles have been on the move in the effected neighborhoods, serving meals and snacks in key locations. As further resources head their way, the Beaumont Chapter will establish additional feeding and distribution sites in cooperation with local and city officials.
Emergency Response Vehicles will be stationed at the following locations two times a day, moving forward. The estimated first arrival time is between 12:00 Noon – 12:30 PM in the afternoon and then following in the evening between 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM:
