Why didn't Hispanics protest in their country?

I am an 80-year-old American woman who, never in a million years, would have lived to experience a day that lawbreakers could come here to our country and have the gall to intimidate our government and our taxpayers.

They demand that President Bush and those that be comply with their demands now, immediately, or they will damage our economy throughout the United States.

Intelligence tells us that Hispanics in this country who are paying taxes, those who have paying jobs and Hispanics who own businesses will feel the effects of the boycott like everyone they want to hurt.

If the economy is affected to the extreme, those who participated in the boycott will be first in the line to collect back wages and unemployment. There will be a rush, of course, for welfare assistance for sure.

Many Americans are for the boycotts. They are probably those who are financially secure in their lives now and for their futures. There is no comparison for Americans who are ill, disabled, elderly and those struggling on a fixed income.

There are more intelligent and humane ways of stabilizing our boarders and of ensuring the security for our country. Pushing away our Americans, who have given much to this country, in order to placate illegal ingrates is disgraceful.

Our government should show some “good ole American guts” and stand up to those who want to destroy us.

Our country has done more for the illegals than their home country ever did for them. Don’t they get it?

Bleeding hearts will disagree with this but that is their business. President Fox and the Mexican government encouraged their people to leave their country and sneak across our boarder in defiance of the U.S. laws.

They did not want to shoulder their responsibilities for the welfare of their neglected citizens. Let America do their job for them.

Why didn’t the protesters and the boycotters, in this country illegally, protest and boycott in Mexico? Why didn’t they use political pressure on their inept government like they are doing to our government?

Mexico needs leadership and vision in their leaders.

Both the U.S. and Mexican governments share blame in the chaos that is going on right now.

As one, self-serving Hispanic organizer of the boycott so proudly announced, “the boycott will make history.” That’s his observation. Then what?

Lord help us all.

  • Should Obama get credit or blame?

In a long Saturday Nov. 12 feature column, the writer suggested that President Obama "could only take credit or blame for those things that are the result of his ideas."  He then listed twelve items for consideration in making that assessment.  An only slightly edited version of those twelve items will make them more useful for that purpose and that version follows.  (1) President Obama inherited Bush's Great Recession....which had actually been created, not by Bush, but by a failed seventy year experiment in socialism.  (2) He stabilized the banking system....using borrowed money.  (3) He extended unemployment benefits....using borrowed money. (4) He reduced taxes....using borrowed money.  (5) He signed a health-care law....funded by borrowed money.  (6) A nuclear arms treaty was signed with the Soviet Union....which had been defeated by Ronald Reagan twenty years ago. (7) Job loss steadily decreased and eventually has resulted in job gains....among government workers and funded by borrowed money. (8) Obama saved the three American auto companies....using borrowed money.  (9) He passed a stimulus plan....using borrowed money.  (10) Several Al Qaeda leaders were killed....by our remarkable military teams trained during the Bush Administration.  (11) The President is trying to solve the nation's short and long-term economic problems....using borrowed money.  (12) President Obama has been willing to compromise....in order to raise taxes or borrow more money.
Based on the writer's list, does President Obama deserve credit or blame?
