PORT ARTHUR —
Many thanks to Mayor Prince for leading the way to a major cleanup of Port Arthur. The success of this and all other community programs depends on the participation of everyone. The Griffing Park Neighborhood Action Group has been and continues to be the catalyst in encouraging Griffing Park citizens to keep their property neat and our area safe.
First United Methodist Church of Port Arthur is sort of a hidden gem in Griffing Park being located across the street from Terrell School. Thanks to this church, the Neighborhood Action Group, the world famous Boy Scout Troop 75, Campfire groups, and the Southeast Texas Collectors Club have a place to call home.
The church itself, which was founded in 1952 as St. Mark's United Methodist Church, was joined by the First United Methodist Church in the 70s and Lakeview United Methodist Church in 2004, adopting the name it now holds at that time.
First Church is a church where everybody knows your name and everyone has a part in accomplishing the mission of the church which is to follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
For the next our Saturdays - October 30, November 6, 13, and 20 - the Church is hosting a community "Pennies from Heaven" Market on the church parking lot. Vendors are welcome to set up their wares at no cost. Donations to the Church Outreach Program are welcome. Customers are urged to check out the goods for some great bargains.
Hope to see you at the parking lot.
