A Garden Welcome
Employees at the Hilton Garden Inn Beaumont have cut the ribbon and have friendly faces and chocolate chip cookies to welcome guests. Golf clubs are in the lobby for visitors to play on the hotel putting course. The impressive decor is enhanced by a Beatles book in the lobby. Brian Huguenard, general manager, said he bought it himself. William Berry Sr., an enthusiastic worker, proudly showed off the banquet room and pool area.
Le Cajun Music Awards to draw families
Some Cajuns in Louisiana want the Port Arthur crowd to know the 19th annual Le Cajun Music Awards will be at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, La., on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18-19. Headliners include Don Fontenot & Les Amis de la Louisiane on Saturday and Paul Daigle & Cajun Gold on Sunday.
Gene Breaux of Orange is festival chairman.

Library looks
A reader wants folks to stop by the Jefferson County Library to see the fancy new circulation desk.
The home of the bookmobile has a big selection of books, books on tape and DVDs. Check it out at 7933 Viterbo Road, near the Jefferson County Regional Airport. The library is a “Wi-Fi hotspot,” a note on the door reads.
They’re open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Call them at 727-2735.
Books for the Food Bank
The Southeast Texas Food Bank is accepting more than food donations. Reading is food for the soul and the bank is teaming with the First Book Program to supply low-income children with books of their very own. Teachers may use the School Tools library to serve Port Arthur, Beaumont and West-Orange Cove districts. To be a part of it, call Emelie Irving or Grace Mathis at 839-8777.
Ford Park recognized
Ford Park is one of 27 SMG facilities selected for a Prime Site Award from Facilities and Destinations Magazine.
Meeting planners vote on sites and centers throughout North America and the Caribbean. Here’s what Facilities and Destinations Magazine reports:
“There is simply no argument – SMG is the leading meeting venue management company… Every year, SMG venues consistently win more Prime Site Awards than those of any other single facility management company, and this year is no exception.”
