PORT ARTHUR —
A Gloster, Miss., man is in the Jefferson County Correctional facility after being arrested Sunday on Interstate 10 with one pound of marijuana and $50,000 in cash.
Cary Thompson, 31, was arresed at approximately 11:01 a.m. near mile marker 832 after a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office patrol deputy initiated a traffic stop for a traffic violation of a vehicle bearing Mississippi license plates. The driver of the vehicle appeared very nervous when the deputy contacted him. The deputy requested permission to search the vehicle. The driver consented to the search.
During the search the Deputy located $50,000 in a hidden compartment in the front of the vehicle and one pound of marijuana in a secondary compartment.
The driver was booked into the Jefferson County Correctional facility on for felony possession of marijuana and money laundering charges. Bond was set at $325,000.
