GROVES —
Treasure hunters take heed, two of the four daily “golden pecans” have been located but there are two more to be found during this year’s Texas Pecan Festival Treasure Hunt.
Jacob Wallace deciphered Monday’s clue and found the golden pecan, worth $50, at approximately 2:20 p.m. Tuesday at the Memorial Park playground area near Taft. The pecan was located just inside the timbers that surround the area full of bark mulch.
Tuesday's golden pecan was found in one of the cinder block holes above the bench to the left of the restrooms at Lions Park. Ashlie Harlow, Deric Jacob, and Kody Morvant found the pecan.
The 2012 Texas Pecan Festival features a ’50s theme, “Rockin & Rollin with the Texas Pecan Festival,” and the event runs from Thursday, Sept. 20 through Sunday, Sept. 23 at Lions Park, 6200 Jackson.
A grand prize of $400 awaits the lucky person who deciphers this year’s Pecan Festival Treasure Hunt clues.
This year’s hunt is sponsored by Levingston Funeral Home and will also feature four daily “golden pecans” hidden the first four days of the hunt. Each of these golden pecans will be worth $50.
The treasure and golden pecans are all hidden on property accessible to the public and digging or destruction of property is prohibited. The person who find the grand prize treasure or daily golden pecans should present them to the Groves Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Center office at 4399 Main St., or a Groves Chamber of Commerce official at the festival for verification.
Clues will be posted daily in the Port Arthur News and at midnight on the Texas Pecan Festival Facebook page. For more information, call the chamber office at 962-3631.
