NEDERLAND —
Carnival ride novices Shelbie Williams and her friend Kaitlyn Bridegam took a hair raising spin on the fast paced Sizzler Thursday afternoon while eagerly eying the towering Super Drop.
The 10-year-olds, accompanied by their mothers, Melinda Williams and Gidget Bridegam, were ready to take on the stories-tall carnival ride during Nederland Heritage Festival.
“We spend out whole spring break here,” Melinda Williams said, adding that the family has made this a tradition since Shelbie was old enough for a Passport to Fun which allows the bearer unlimited rides.
The girls laughed as they told of the Sizzler and how they were “smushed” to one side during the ride.
Festival lovers filled Boston Avenue where rides, games and food were laid out and a number of adults sat in lounge chairs near the front of Central Middle School on 17th Street.
One family with five children brought along a friend to help with the three younger children. Dustin Guidry and daughter Moriah, 2, coasted down the giant slide while mom Kerri Guidry rode down with son Westin, 3. Daughter Gloria Beth, 5, came down the slide laughing along with Carrie Roberts. The other two siblings, ages 9 and 12, were riding rides nearby.
The festival will continue Friday through Sunday.
