Ridgewood school “blowing away cancer” with bubbles

PORT NECHES — Students at Ridgewood Elementary School used bubbles to “blow away cancer.”

The kindergarten through third graders, each with a tiny bottle of bubbles, lined up in front of the school Friday morning for the symbolic gesture which was the culmination of a week’s worth of fundraising for Relay for Life.

Principal Julie Gauthier, who is currently battling melanoma form of cancer, asked the children to think about a family member, faculty member or someone they know who’s been touched by cancer while blowing the bubbles.

Several other faculty members at the school are either cancer survivors or recently diagnosed, which is the reason Team Ridgewood was formed, first grade teacher April Graves said
