Missing plate, taillight leads police to stolen car, burglary suspect

PORT ARTHUR — A would-be thief driving a vehicle with no license plate and a missing taillight assembly caught the watchful eye of police early Thursday morning.

Besides the missing plate and taillight it was discovered the vehicle was stolen from a local storage facility that has also been burglarized.

An officer with Port Arthur Police Department attempted to stop the vehicle at about 12:58 a.m. Sept. 27 for the missing plate and taillight but the driver quickly pulled into a parking space at Carver Terrace Apartments, 1400 Dewalt, and fled on foot, according to a press release from PAPD.

After a foot pursuit officers were able to stop the man and place him under arrest.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from Figueroa’s Storage yard on Gulfway Drive. Officers checked the facility and discovered the business had also been burglarized and the suspect was reportedly found to have property on his person that was taken from the business.

The suspect was transported to Jefferson County Jail to be booked for burglary of a building, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest.
