PORT ARTHUR — In a twist on the love/intimidation factor between kids and clowns, a lovely lady clown was shy with the children at the Port Arthur Public Library. Cherie Gregg and her real-life husband, were the couple of clowns from Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Barnum and Bailey Circus will appear at Ford Park in Beaumont from April 23-25, and these clowns go ahead to let everyone know. Cherie wore black and white in stripes, checks and polka dots. Her clown husband is Dave, spelled with a silent Q, placed anywhere you want. He sported blue hair and banged his big clown nose on the door when he walked into story time Thursday evening. He recovered quickly, to the delight of several laughing children and one crying child. He tried and tried to get Cherie in the door, but she was very shy. He had to hold her hand. She didn’t want to let go. She produced a book for Dave to read, but she didn’t want to let go. Finally, she helped Dave with the silent Q read a story about magic, the kind which is sure to show up in the circus act. Braylon Wells, 3, observed quietly from the back row with his mother, Shannon Mitchell. She pointed out that Braylon’s twin, Braydon, was in the big middle of things with his grandmother. They sat on the floor right next to the boisterous clowns. The Port Arthur Public Library will present a life Rosa Parks reenactment with Melissa Waddy Thibodeaux at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10. The library is hosting Port Arthur’s Art Unlimited presentation, Change: Creating Unity Within Our Community Celebrating the Arts.
