Child drowns in PA, sixth death this year

PORT ARTHUR — A seven-year-old child drowned in a neighbor’s pool in Port Arthur Tuesday afternoon. Officers were called at 6:05 p.m. to the 2900 block of 8th Avenue with the report of a missing child.

During a search of area homes and the surrounding neighborhood an individual assisting in the search located the boy in a fenced swimming pool in the 3500 block of 29th Street.

The child was pulled from the pool and responding officers performed CPR until EMS and PAFD could arrive. The child was transported to St. Mary Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Justic of the Peace Tom Gilliam.

This drowning is the sixth in the area this year. Altogether there have been approximately 65 drownings in the state of Texas this year according to Sgt. Smith with the Port Arthur Police Department.

The incident is being investigated by the Port Arthur Police Department and Child Protective Services.
