At approximately 8:00 am this morning, an 18-wheeler traveling westbound on Interstate 10 near the Highway 62 exit crashed into the concrete barrier causing DPS to close both westbound lanes.
According to the investigation, the driver of a 1994 GMC truck tractor lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the concrete barrier. After the collision, the truck began leaking oil and diesel from the truck tractor and the driver had to be transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The driver, 65 year old Ray Gordon of Dayton, Texas, is currently listed in stable condition at Baptist Hospital in Orange.
During the collision, the concrete barriers received extensive damage and are being repaired at this time. HazMat teams from Port Arthur are on route to the scene to begin cleaning the oil and diesel from the roadway. Traffic is being diverted onto Highway 62 and motorists should expect delays in the area near the crash scene. The westbound lanes of the Interstate will be closed for at least 3 more hours.
This investigation is ongoing and all possible factors that could have contributed to this crash are being investigated thoroughly by The Texas Department of Public Safety.
