PORT ARTHUR —
Whether highly visible as those etched across J.R. Martinez’ body, or those hidden away deep inside, it’s how a person reacts in their darkest hour, how they turn away from being a victim, to take ownership all the events — those good and bad — that shape a life.
“When something happens to us, in that moment we are a victim,” Martinez said at a press conference Tuesday. “ But, I like to use the word ‘survivor.” We can all become survivors from whatever it may be in life.”
As the featured guest at Lamar State College-Port Arthur’s Distinguished Lecture Series, the war hero-turned-motivational speaker brought his message of strength and hope to the crowd that came to see him.
