PA's Babineaux brothers make a film

PORT ARTHUR — After Jordan Babineaux of Port Arthur met actors Blair Underwood and Sharon Leal on the set of “Woman Thou Art Loosed: On The 7th Day” last year a new passion was born in the football star.

He has begun taking acting classes and writing screenplays for short films.

The two NFL brothers from Port Arthur, Jordan Babineaux of Tennessee Titians and his older brother Jonathan Babineaux of Atlanta Falcons, have produced their first feature film together, “Woman Thou Art Loosed!: On The 7th Day,” in theaters now.

The Babineaux brothers spoke about their new enterprise in a telephone interview with the News this week.

“We had a chance to sit in the directors chair,” said Jordan. “Myself, having a desire and interest to produce and direct films, it was an exciting opportunity.”

Earlier this month, Jordan participated in the NFL Pro Hollywood Boot Camp, where he and several other NFL stars learned about the entertainment industry in Hollywood, California.

“I had a chance to feel what it’s like to be on camera and put out some emotions I’d never seen,” said Jordan, talking about his acting. “I went to a place I’d never been before.”

Babineaux spoke of the possibility of the brothers’ future projects telling the stories from Port Arthur.

“It is a privilege to have the ability to play at the peak of our athletic careers and work together on a project like this,” said Jordan. “We share somewhat of the same story. We are able to say it together and say the same thing.”

This latest project, shot in New Orleans, is a dramatic thriller about a husband and wife whose young daughter is kidnapped. The couple must save the girl before the seventh day or she will be murdered, but they find out much about themselves in between.

The film also deals with religious themes, according to Jonathan Babineaux, and is based on a series of books by the famous Dallas mega-church preacher and author T.D. Jakes.

“It has issues that everybody has dealt with in their life,” said Jonathan. “I think the story relates to everybody and every form of life.”

The brothers chose the film in part because of its theme and their support for Jakes.

Considered an independent film, “Woman Thou Art Loosed!: On The 7th Day,” is playing in six Houston theaters including Studio 30 Houston, Willowbrook 24 and Deerbrook 24  in Humble.

“We are working on a chance to get it to hit the Beaumont-Port Arthur market,” said Jordan.

Tickets are available online ticket stores like Fandango.com.
