Port Arthur’s City Council on Tuesday rejected a couple’s desire to disannex from a city that provides no services, yet requires them to pay city property taxes.
In a statement prepared by Port Arthur City Attorney Val Tizeno, City Council determined that the city was not at fault for not providing services to the couple, and that the couple is in violation of city ordinances.
Rodney Sr. and Debbie Townsend filed their petition to disannex from the city of Port Arthur about a month ago. If successful in their bid to withdraw from the city limits, Port Arthur could face a significant loss in property values.
