PORT ARTHUR —
The investigation continues into the cause of a fire that damaged eight apartment units at The Shire on Wednesday.
Port Arthur Fire Department responded to the fire at about 12:52 a.m. April 25 at the apartment complex, 4180 FM 365. A total of 18 personnel responded, PAFD Capt. Dwayne Morvant said. Nederland Fire Department was on stand-by to assist on the north end in case other calls came in while PAFD was fighting the fire.
A total of 16 apartment units were affected, he said, with eight suffering damage from fire, heat, smoke and water while the other eight units suffered smoke damage.
Morvant said management was very helpful in making sure everyone was accounted for and safe and the apartment complex manager and Red Cross assured the fire department that those affected will be relocated.
The fire originated in the living room of an upstairs apartment at the complex and remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
