Port Arthur Police were dispatched to the Shire Apartments on FM 365 at 10:42 p.m. Monday in reference to a possible sexual assault and a disturbance.
Police separated a fighting couple. One subject, a 39-year-old male, was identified by his step-daughter, age 11, as being the subject who had just sexually assaulted her.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail for booking on charges of aggravated sexual assault. The child was taken to a local hospital for examination and treatment by a SANE nurse, who is trained in treating and collecting evidence in these types of offenses.
