WASHINGTON D.C. —
WASHINGTON — The Port Arthur Downtown Renewal Association received a grant of $750,000, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn announced Friday.
The funding, provided through the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), will be used to fund implementation of the Port Arthur Downtown Master Plan, designed to attract businesses and entrepreneurs to take advantage of growth opportunities from the region's refining and construction industry clusters.
“This is good news for the future of economic development in the area. The investment will give a boost to the local economy by creating many jobs, and I applaud the local leaders who worked to secure this funding,” said Sen. Cornyn
The grant is administered by the Economic Development Administration (EDA), a division of the Department of Commerce. The EDA was established to work with states and localities to generate new jobs, retain existing jobs, and stimulate industrial and commercial growth in economically distressed areas and regions of the United States.
Sen. Cornyn serves on the Finance, Judiciary, Agriculture and Budget Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
