Guidry to take reins as Nederland HR director

NEDERLAND — The stars have aligned for Holly Guidry.

Guidry, court administrator for Nederland Police Department, will assume a new role with the city — human resources director.

She will replace Emily Pope who left the post in November, Nederland City Manager Chris Duque said. Guidry’s first day as HR director is Monday.

Guidry has spent three years as court administrator where she worked with Judge John Borne, who died in 2011, then Judge Kent Walston. Prior to this she worked in the steel industry as a purchaser and at a legal firm. In 2005 she graduated from Lamar University with a bachelor of business administration in human resources.

So when the position of human resources director became available, Guidry applied.

“It’s like the stars aligned when the job came open,” Guidry said. “I had legal experience and have accomplished a lot in three years I’ve been here.”

Duque said the city decided to do interviews in-house. He added there are not a lot of advancement opportunities administratively as compared to other departments such as public works and streets. Three people applied for the position and interviews were performed earlier in the month.

“In interviewing Ms. Guidry we thought she was the best candidate and we feel comfortable in hiring her for the position,” Duque said. “We’ll be working with her and think she will be beneficial to the employees, retirees and citizens.”

Guidry is excited to take this next step in her career.

“I look forward to getting to know all of the employees,” she said. “I’m kind of in a bubble at the police department so there’s a lot of employees I need to get to know in order to meet everybody’s needs.”
