PORT ARTHUR —
Port Arthur is getting close to selecting a new city manager after City Council on Tuesday adopted a timeline to conclude the search.
Four candidates are still in the running, and one of them likely will be named the new city manager within a the next month.
On May 23, Council will interview the four candidates, then select two finalists in a special May 29 meeting.
Once named, the two will then be more thoroughly vetted by The Mercer Group, the search firm hired to assist the city in finding a new manager.
On June 4, those two finalists will be interviewed again by Council, prior to meeting with city department heads. At 6 p.m. Port Arthur residents will have the opportunity to meet the two candidates during a public reception.
A date to actually name a new manager has not yet been set, Albert Thigpen, department of human resources manager, said.
