The Port Arthur News

GROVES —  A Port Arthur man is accused of recording a woman in the bathroom of a restaurant in Groves.

Alfredo Loredo-Cruz, 28, was arrested Monday on a charge of improper photo/visual recording without consent, which is a state jail felony. Bond is set at $10,000.

Groves City Marshal Jeff Wilmore said the department received a call around 2 p.m. Monday, April 30 from a woman who stated she found a cell phone in active record mode in the wastebasket of the woman’s restroom at Tony’s Barbecue on Twin City Highway.

The victim, age 27, told police the suspect had been in the bathroom before she entered. Later, while inside, she noticed something shiny in the trash can and found the cell phone actively recording, Wilmore said. As she was leaving the restroom, phone in hand, she saw the same man near the restroom.

The woman told her boyfriend and they reported the incident to the restaurant manager. Wilmore said the man confessed to the woman and her boyfriend as well as the manager. He also made a statement to the police regarding the incident, Wilmore added.

Wilmore said the man told police he placed the phone in the restroom to make sure the camera was operating.

Police checked the phone and did not find similar photos or videos.
