GROVES — The Groves Police Department received a complaint of a possible phone scam. The complainant advised that they received a call from a subject claiming to be from U.P.S. and said that UPS had a package for him. The complainant contacted UPS who told him that they had no package for him.
The complainant returned home and received a call from the same phone number. This time the subject on the phone claimed to be from the I.R.S. and said that the complainant needed to wire him money to have the money sent to him.
The number being used to call residents is 876-809-6517. The number has been reported on various websites as a being involved in several scams. A trace of the phone number shows it to be registered with a Jamaican phone company
The Groves Police Department wants to reiterate to residents that if you receive such a call, do not give them your information and to be weary of a possible scam.
