The cause of a Monday fire at the Flint Hills Resources LLC plant in Port Arthur is under investigation, according to information filed with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The company reported an emissions event after workers discovered a fire on the C3 hydrogenation feed pump at about 10:45 p.m. Monday, the filing stated.
The company’s Emergency Operations Center was activated and its in-house fire department was called to put out the fire. The Light Olefins Unit was shut down and process gases were routed to that unit’s flare.
According to the report, the fire’s origin has not yet been determined. Emissions resulting from the incident are ongoing, the report indicated.
The company is required to file an initial report within 24 hours of an emission event, and has two weeks to file its final report, Lisa Wheeler, a spokesperson with TCEQ said via e-mail Wednesday.
TCEQ cannot comment further until receipt of the final report, Wheeler said.
