BEAUMONT — The Beaumont Police Department has received several calls in reference to a new telephone scam. The calls are coming from 212-121-2121. The person usually has a foreign accent. They usually target the elderly, offering a $7000 grant saying you never have to pay it back and it's related to hurricane funding programs. The scam artist then asks for bank account or credit card information.
The Beaumont Police wants to remind people that the adage "If it's too good to be true, it probably is" applies. Do not give out personal or financial information over the phone or through email. If you have been scammed call and report it to the police. If you need more information go to our web site at http://www.beaumontpd.com/investigation_financial.htm.
