BEAUMONT —
If the sale of a 12-acre parcel of land on U.S. 69 goes through, the now vacant property will bring tax dollars to Jefferson County while providing a local business a prime location for its larger facilities.
Jefferson County Precinct 2 Commissioner Brent Weaver is proposing the sale of a 12.5 acre underveloped parcel fronting U.S. 69 just south of the now-closed Texas Youth Council facility.
The acreage is north of the Nederland city limits.
County Commissioners on Monday heard a presentation from John Durkay, general counsel for Industrial Safety Training Council, a local company hoping to purchase the property from the county for $187,500.
At present, the land does not have water or sewer infrastructure, is located in a flood plain, and is without electrical power.
