The event, which is sponsored in conjunction with the City of Port Arthur, Lamar State College-Port Arthur, Motiva and KBTV Fox 4, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Carl Parker Multipurpose Center, 1800 Lakeshore Drive.

Tom Neal, vice president for Student Services at LSC-PA, said an added draw for the event is that it is held inside the Parker Center which is air conditioned.

“There will be free drinks and popcorn,” Neal said. “We’ll finish up around 8:45 p.m. and walk out back of the building to the sea wall for the fireworks show. It is always so beautiful, like a mirror effect over the water.”

Parking is available around the Parker Center and the Lamar Lecture Hall. Additional parking is available in front of the Performing Arts Center.

Everyone is encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs, soft drinks and a picnic meal. Alcohol and the use of tobacco products are prohibited on the Lamar-Port Arthur campus, according to information from LSC-PA.

The city of Nederland and the Nederland Chamber of Commerce are coming together for Light Up the Sky on the 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza to be held at Doornbos Park, 2301 Avenue H.

The event beings at 7 p.m. with a salute to the troops featuring a slideshow, set to music, featuring photos of local military personnel who are currently stationed overseas, Jinni Akins, president/ceo of the chamber, said.
