PORT NECHES —
Fulfilling a personal goal to help others has led one Golden Triangle man to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Klint Landry joined the Port Neches Police Department in November 2011 and quickly adjusted to work as a police officer. In his seven months as an officer Landry has proven to be a valuable member of the force who has made a number of arrests for the offense of driving while intoxicated.
“There are a lot of families who endure pain and sorrow after losing a loved one in an accident due to intoxicated drivers,” Landry said.
Port Neches Police Chief Paul Lemoine commended Landry for his work getting intoxicated drivers off the street.
“He (Landry) is very traffic oriented. He has made a lot of stops in which he has located narcotics and drunk drivers,” Lemoine said of the arrests which mostly occurred during minor traffic violations.
DWI stops and arrests are very time consuming, Lemoine pointed out, adding that law enforcement has the burden of proof when submitting a case to the district attorneys office. A typical DWI arrest may take an officer up to four hours including time to write reports, download video, etc.
Landry had initially wanted to join the military but due to certain circumstances was unable to do so, he said. Law enforcement was the next obvious choice of career.
“This is my way of serving,” Landry said. “And I’ve always felt compelled to help those who are incapable of helping themselves. I like to do what’s right and I have a high moral ethic.”
Landry’s work as an officer has already proved memorable. Besides making DWI arrests he encountered a dangerous situation earlier this year in which an individual with a medical condition aimed a gun at his face during an incident. The officer relied on his training to skillfully deal with the situation.
Landry aspires to step up his work in law enforcement by becoming a member of SWAT or Jefferson County Task Force to better serve the community, he said.
